1. Visit Buda Castle.

2. See the Hungarian Parliament as part of your visit.

 Touring the Hungarian Parliament should be on every traveler’s list in Budapest. The parliament has an imposing structure and it is the largest chambers in all of Europe, with both Gothic Revival styling and rich interior details. Join a tour to see the impressive rooms, learn about how governance was handled in Hungary and observe some of the Crown Jewels which are in the Castle. The view from the river and the incredible buildings make it an excellent place for photos and getting to know Hungarian culture.

3. Take time to enjoy the Thermal Baths.

 Many people know Budapest for its thermal baths and July is the best time to use them outdoors for their health benefits. Take a break at the Széchenyi Thermal Bath which is one of Europe’s biggest medical baths and let the warm water soothe you in the summer sun. You can enjoy the thermal baths, get different massages, wellness packages and spa treatments to be pampered thoroughly. One experience to love in Budapest is sitting in the mineral baths.

4. Take a River Cruise down the Danube.

 You should take a river cruise on the Danube while you’re in Budapest because it lets you see the city from a different angle. Look out for the city’s landmarks, for example, the famous Chain Bridge, the impressive Parliament building and historical Gellért Hill. Go for a daytime cruise to enjoy the clear view of the city and enjoy a special sight of the city lights reflected off the river after sunset.

5. Visit the Budapest Summer Festival.

 Happening in July, the Budapest Summer Festival is a month of cultural events that makes people feel festive throughout the city. There are many kinds of concerts, theater, dances and movie screenings across different places. If you enjoy classical music, jazz, opera or contemporary dance, there will be something for you in Sydney. Go through the festival timetable early on and make sure you get your tickets to have a memorable night out.

6. Go to Margaret Island.

 Flee from the busy city environment by going to Margaret Island, a green and quiet sanctuary in Budapest. From bikes to walking, there are many peaceful areas on the island, especially in the parks and gardens. Take time to watch the musical fountain and see the water in sync with music or spend some time at the various open-air cafes found all over the area. Remember to see the medieval remains of the Dominican Convent and admire the vibrant flowers in the Rose Garden which are their loveliest in summertime.

7. Sample some Hungarian Food

 It’s important to taste traditional dishes when you are in Budapest. Sample some favorite traditional foods, including goulash, sweet chimney cake, crispy lángos (fried dough) and stuffed cabbage. Get to the Central Market Hall to pick out your favorite local fruits and vegetables, meats, cheese, spices and yes, famous paprika. Another option is to go on a food tour where you taste delicious dishes and discover the city’s food traditions from the locals.

8. Have fun in the Ruin Bars located in the area of the Jewish Quarter.

 Many of Budapest’s most interesting bars and nightlife can be found in the Jewish Quarter, very unique to the city. Visit the popular ruin bars which pop up in old abandoned buildings and grounds, now turned into unique pubs. Their unique blend includes art, music, old-fashioned decorations and an exciting atmosphere. Try the exciting party spots here and pair them with a stiff drink, Hungarian brew or a premium beer.

9. Go see Heroes’ Square.

 Get to Heroes’ Square which is easily one of the city’s biggest and most famous public spaces. See the Millennium Monument which is built to honor the seven Magyar chieftains plus other well-known leaders in Hungarian history. Visit Andrássy Avenue which is UNESCO World Heritage Listed for its opulent shops, grand townhouses and fine Neo-Renaissance construction. Stop at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hall of Arts, both near the square, to learn more about Hungarian culture and art.

10. Take part in a Danube Cruise to Szentendre.

 A Danube River cruise is a good way to spend your spare time while in the area; it’ll take you to picturesque Szentendre, a town close to Budapest. Walk through its small and colorful alleyways, visit different art galleries and shops selling unique handmade items and learn about Aarhus’ rich artistic past. Szentendre is well known for its Hungarian pastries and this is a great opportunity to eat some tasty treats like Dobos torte or rétes (strudel).
